The Incident in Sharsha
A serious allegation of petrol pump grabbing has led to the expulsion of Anwar Hossain alias Anwar Member, the joint general secretary of Union BNP in Sharsha upazila’s Bagachra area, Jessore.
On Monday night (22 September), the news was confirmed in a press release signed by District BNP’s general secretary Delwar Hossain Khokon. The statement also instructed that no BNP member should maintain contact with Anwar.
Party’s Statement on the Expulsion
The official BNP statement said that Anwar Hossain was expelled from all party posts, including his primary membership, due to specific allegations of trying to seize the petrol pump.
It added:
Translation: “The party never takes responsibility for an individual’s crime. Those who link BNP with such crimes in the media are acting with dishonest political intentions.”

Expelled Leader Rejects Allegations
After the expulsion, Anwar Hossain held a press conference where he denied all allegations against him. He said:
Translation: “Those who enjoyed benefits under the past Awami League government are conspiring against me. False allegations are being used to destroy BNP’s image.”
Victim Family’s Claims
The controversy began when the victim family held a press conference at Jessore Press Club on 21 September.
Tonima Khatun, a family member, alleged that Anwar tried to seize their petrol pump “Messrs Golam Kibria Filling Station” using fake documents and political influence after her father’s death in 2022.
She said that there are already two ongoing cases against him. On 19 September, Anwar and his associates allegedly entered the pump, forced out the manager, and snatched documents and keys.
Tonima claimed that the attackers fled when the police arrived, but Anwar continued threatening to grab the pump using political power.
