Seizure Operation in Jashore
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized a large consignment of Indian goods smuggled into Bangladesh illegally. The raid took place at around 1:30 am on Monday (22 September) in the Bhoberber area of Benapole, Jashore.
Members of 49 BGB stopped a cargo truck and discovered a huge number of Indian products. The truck was immediately seized, and two men — driver Abdul Malek (46) and helper Ontor Karmokar (29) — were arrested.
Goods Found Inside the Truck
According to BGB officials, the seized items include:
- 1,476 sarees
- 215 three-piece dresses
- 10,693 pieces of medicines
- 74,455 pieces of cosmetics
- Tyres and other goods
The total estimated market value of the seized goods is Tk 2 crore 50 lakh 61 thousand.

Statement from BGB Official
Lieutenant Colonel Saifullah Siddiqui, Commander of Jashore Battalion 49 BGB, explained the operation:
“গোপন সংবাদের ভিত্তিতে বেনাপোল ভবের বেড় ট্রাক টার্মিনাল এর সামনে পাকা রাস্তার উপর হতে মাগুরা কার্গো সার্ভিসের একটি কার্গো ট্রাক তল্লাশির জন্য থামানো হয়। পরবর্তীতে ট্রাকটিতে থাকা অবৈধ মালামাল জব্দ করা হয়। যার আনুমানিক সিজার মূল্য ২ কোটি ৫০ লাখ ৬১ হাজার টাকা।”
Translation:
“Based on secret information, a cargo truck of Magura Cargo Service was stopped in front of Bhoberber Truck Terminal in Benapole for checking. Later, the illegal goods inside the truck were seized. The estimated value of the seized goods is Tk 2 crore 50 lakh 61 thousand.”
Purpose Behind the Smuggling
Lt. Col. Siddiqui further mentioned that the goods were smuggled in for higher profits during the upcoming Durga Puja festival.
“আসন্ন দুর্গাপূজা উপলক্ষ্যে অধিক মুনাফা লাভের আশায় এসব মালামাল আনা হয়।”
Translation:
“These goods were brought with the hope of making more profit during the upcoming Durga Puja.”
Legal Action Taken
The arrested men and the seized items have been handed over to the Benapole Port Police Station. A case has already been filed against the accused.
