BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman inspired the country’s young generation to take to the streets in the July 24 mass uprising, said the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
He made these remarks after paying homage at the grave of martyred President Ziaur Rahman at Chandrima Udyan in the capital on Wednesday (September 24). At the time, leaders of the newly announced committees of Barguna and Pirojpur districts of BNP, including central and local leaders, were present.
Rizvi said,
জাতীয়তাবাদী পতাকা নিয়ে এই ‘রক্ত পিপাসু শেখ হাসিনাকে পরাজিত’ করতে তারেক রহমান যে পটভূমি রচনা করেছেন এবং তরুণদের উদ্বুদ্ধ করে রাজপথে নামিয়েছেন, তা ইতিহাসের পাতায় উজ্জ্বল হয়ে থাকবে।
Translation: The background that Tarique Rahman created to defeat this ‘bloodthirsty Sheikh Hasina’ with the nationalist flag and the way he inspired the youth to take to the streets will remain bright in the pages of history.
According to him,
‘তারেক রহমান তরুণদের উদ্বুদ্ধ করে রাজপথে নামিয়েছিলেন। সেই দৃশ্য, সেই ইতিহাস কোনো দিন মুছে যাবে না। এটি ইতিহাসের পাতায় উজ্জ্বল হয়ে থাকবে।’
Translation: “Tarique Rahman inspired the youth and brought them out onto the streets. That scene, that history will never be erased. It will remain bright in the pages of history.”
He added that,
তারেক রহমান আন্দোলনের সময় তরুণদের সামনে নেতৃত্বের যে উদাহরণ স্থাপন করেছেন তা দেশের রাজনৈতিক ইতিহাসে নতুন প্রজন্মকে প্রেরণা জোগাবে।
Translation: The example of leadership that Tarique Rahman set before the youth during the movement will inspire the new generation in the country’s political history.

New light of hope under the leadership of Barguna and Pirojpur BNP
At that time, he mentioned the names of the leaders of the newly formed committee including Barguna district BNP convener Nazrul Islam Molla, member secretary Humayun Hossain Shahin and Pirojpur district BNP convener Nazrul Islam Khan.
Rizvi said,
এই নেতারা আন্দোলন-সংগ্রামে আপসহীন থেকেছেন। পুলিশের নির্যাতন-নিপীড়নের মধ্যেও তারা রাজপথে সক্রিয় ছিলেন।
Translation: These leaders have remained uncompromising in their movements and struggles. They have remained active on the streets despite police persecution.
He express hope and said,
‘তাদের নেতৃত্বে বরগুনা ও পিরোজপুর জেলা বিএনপি একটি আদর্শ সংগঠনে পরিণত হবে। কোনো চাঁদাবাজ, দখলদার বা সমাজবিরোধী সেখানে আশ্রয় পাবে না।’
Translation: “Under their leadership, Barguna and Pirojpur district BNP will become an ideal organization. No extortionist, usurper or anti-social will find shelter there.”
Regarding the upcoming national elections, the BNP Senior Joint Secretary General said,
নতুন নেতারা জনগণের আস্থা অর্জন করবে। সেই আস্থার ভিত্তিতেই মানুষ ধানের শীষে ভোট দেবে।
Translation: “The new leaders will gain the trust of the people. Based on that trust, people will vote with a grain of rice.”
Rizvi said,
গত ১৬ বছর ধরে বিএনপির সংগ্রাম শুধু একটি লক্ষ্যেই—গণতন্ত্র পুনরুদ্ধার। এই সংগ্রাম দেশনেত্রী বেগম খালেদা জিয়ার নেতৃত্বেই চালিয়ে যাচ্ছি।
Translation: “For the past 16 years, BNP’s struggle has been for only one goal – restoration of democracy. We are continuing this struggle under the leadership of our national leader, Begum Khaleda Zia.”
Harsh criticism against Sheikh Hasina
Rizvi called Sheikh Hasina a ‘symbol of terrible fascist misrule’ and said that Sheikh Hasina has strangled democracy and taken away people’s voting rights.
He alleged,
আগের সরকার খালেদা জিয়াকে নির্যাতন ও কারা জীবন দিয়ে দমিয়ে রাখার চেষ্টা করেছে। কিন্তু তার আপসহীন মনোবল ও নেতৃত্ব দমিয়ে রাখা যায়নি।
Translation: The previous government tried to suppress Khaleda Zia through torture and imprisonment, but her uncompromising morale and leadership could not be suppressed.
He added,
‘শেখ হাসিনা গণতন্ত্রকে গলা টিপে হত্যা করেছেন। মানুষের ভোটাধিকার হরণ করেছেন।’
Translation: “Sheikh Hasina has strangled democracy. She has taken away people’s voting rights.”
