Chief Advisor Calls for Active Participation

Speaking at the “NRB Connect Day: Empowering Global Bangladeshi” event in New York on Saturday, Chief Advisor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus said:

“দূরে গ্যালারিতে দাঁড়িয়ে খেলা দেখব এমন হবে না। গ্যালারিতে বসে দেখার দিন শেষ। আমরা এখন নিজে খেলব।”

Translation: “We will not just stand far in the gallery and watch the game. The days of sitting in the gallery are over. Now we will play ourselves.”

Chief Advisor Yunus highlighted that all Bangladeshis, including those abroad, have a role in rebuilding the country and called on NRBs to actively contribute to national development.

Diaspora as an Integral Part of Bangladesh

Prof. Yunus described NRBs as an “inseparable part” of Bangladesh. He said the dreams of change sparked by the July people’s uprising can be advanced with the diaspora’s support according to their capabilities.

Chief Advisor Yunus also expressed gratitude to political leaders joining the UN visit, stating:

“উনারা এ সফরে যোগ দিতে সম্মত হয়েছে বলে আমাদের আস্থা অনেক বেড়ে গেল।”

Translation: “We are much more confident because they agreed to join this visit.”

Economic Progress and Appreciation

The event featured a presentation by BIDA Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun. He highlighted Bangladesh’s economic progress over the last 15 months after the July uprising, noting a more than 21% growth in remittances and the government’s investment-friendly initiatives.

He also explained the voting process for the upcoming general elections in February and sought continued support from the diaspora.

Interactive Panels and Political Perspectives

An interactive panel titled “Bridging Borders: Current Affairs and Diaspora Engagement” was moderated by Chief Advisor’s Special Envoy Lutfe Siddique. Panelists included Adviser for Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Dr. Asif Nazrul and two others.

Political leaders shared post-uprising perspectives on Bangladesh:

  • BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir
  • Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh Naib-e Amir Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher
  • National Citizen Party Secretary Akhtar Hossain

Another panel, “Shaping Tomorrow: The Future of Bangladesh”, moderated by National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman, featured:

  • NCP leader Tasnim Zara
  • BNP leader Humayun Kabir
  • Jamaat leader Nakibur Rahman
Launch of Mobile App ‘Shubhechha’

Chief Advisor Yunus inaugurated a mobile app called ‘Shubhechha’, designed to provide NRBs with essential services, guidance, and investment opportunities.
