‘For Whom Will I Buy New Clothes?’ — Grieving Mother of July Uprising Victim

July Uprising Victim

A Facebook post shared by Asif Mahmud highlighted the deep pain of families who lost loved ones during the July 2024 student-led uprising in Bangladesh.

The post carried the grief of Beauty Ghosh, mother of six-year-old July Uprising Victim Riya Gop, who was killed during the movement. She said:

“আমার কোনো পূজা নাই। কেনাকাটাও করি নাই। কার জন্য কেনাকাটা করমু, কারে পরামু নতুন জামা। পূজা আসলেই মা আমার কত কিছু আবদার করতো।”

Translation: “I have no Puja. I didn’t do any shopping. For whom will I buy clothes, to whom will I give new dresses? Every Puja, my daughter asked me for so many things.”

The post reminded that while the uprising brought many achievements for the nation, it also took away countless lives, dreams, and futures. Thousands of mothers lost their children, and many families lost their loved ones.

It added that for mothers like Beauty Ghosh, the smile has been lost forever. The sacrifice of those who gave their lives, it said, can never be forgotten or underestimated.

The admin wrote,

“As long as the strength of the uprising remains firm, the sacrifice and achievements will stay honoured forever by the state and the nation,”.
