Trump’s Demand for the Nobel Prize

U.S. President Donald Trump has strongly claimed that if he does not get the Nobel Peace Prize, it will be a big insult to the United States.

During a speech to over 100 U.S. military officials on Tuesday (30 September), he also called crime and immigration problems an “internal war” and announced plans to deploy troops.

Trump’s Statements

In his speech, Trump said he has been the key figure in solving many conflicts around the world.

“Will I get the Nobel? Of course not. They will give it to someone who did nothing. That would be a big insult for our country. I am telling you; I don’t want it for myself. I want our country to get it because it deserves this more than ever before.”

Background: Obama’s Nobel

Trump has long been angry about former Democratic President Barack Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009. Since then, he has repeatedly argued that he deserves the honor more because of his global initiatives.

Claim of Ending Wars

Donald Trump again repeated his claim that he ended seven wars since taking office in January. His administration listed conflicts he says he has resolved, including disputes in:

  • Cambodia and Thailand
  • Kosovo and Serbia
  • Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda
  • Pakistan and India
  • Israel and Iran
  • Egypt and Ethiopia
  • Armenia and Azerbaijan

He further said: if the Gaza plan he announced with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday is implemented, it will end another war within eight months.

Experts Dismiss Trump’s Chances

Despite Trump’s bold claims, experts say he has almost zero chance of winning the Nobel this year. Historian Øyvind Stenersen, who studies the Peace Prize, called it “completely unthinkable.”

The Norwegian Nobel Committee also stated that media campaigns or political pressure cannot influence their decision. Committee secretary Kristian Berg Harpviken said:

“Of course, we notice when there is a lot of media attention on certain candidates. But it has no impact on our ongoing discussions.”

Reality of Trump’s Claims

While Trump quickly took credit for ending wars, many of his claims were either partly true or entirely incorrect. Analysts believe his Nobel push is more about politics than real achievements.
