This year, the Air Force will join the Police and Navy in conserving mother Hilsa fish using drones, announced Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akter. She spoke to journalists while visiting the Randa Prasad Saha Durga Mandap in Mirzapur, Tangail on Wednesday evening.
Farida Akter said:
“আমরা দেশটাকে সুন্দর করার প্রতিজ্ঞা নিয়ে এসেছি। প্রতিবছরের মতো এ বছরও মা ইলিশ রক্ষায় ২২ দিনের নিষেধাজ্ঞা থাকছে।”
Translation: “We have come with the promise to protect our country. Like every year, there will be a 22-day ban on mother Hilsa fishing this year as well.”

She added,
“আগামী ৪ অক্টোবরের থেকে ২৪ অক্টোবর তারিখ পর্যন্ত এই নিষেধাজ্ঞা থাকবে।”
Translation: “This ban will be in effect from 4th October to 24th October.”
Last Year’s Success:
Farida Akter highlighted last year’s initiative, saying:
“আমরা গত বছর যে উদ্যোগ নিয়েছিলাম তাতে সফলতা পেয়েছি। এতে করে ৫২ দশমিক ৫ শতাংশ মা ইলিশ রক্ষা হয়েছিল।”
Translation: “We succeeded with last year’s initiative, which helped protect 52.5% of mother Hilsa.”

Focus on Illegal Nets:
She further mentioned,
“ইলিশ মাছ কম আহরণের মূল কারণ হচ্ছে কারেন্ট জাল ও চায়না জালের ব্যবহার। সে কারণে এ বছর আমরা বেশি সর্তক থাকব। আশা করছি, এ বছর একটু বেশি ইলিশ রক্ষা করতে পারব।”
Translation: “The main reason for low Hilsa catch is the use of current nets and China nets. That’s why we will be more vigilant this year. We hope to protect even more Hilsa this year.”
The 22-day ban and the combined efforts of the Air Force, Police, and Navy aim to conserve Bangladesh’s valuable Hilsa population and prevent overfishing.
