Shahidul Alam’s Determined Message from the Flotilla
Bangladeshi photographer and Drik Managing Director Shahidul Alam gave an update on the Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla through a video message on Thursday, 2 October 2025.
He said,
“ইসরায়েলের কোনো আক্রমণে আমরা পেছনে যাবো না, অবশ্যই সেখানে পৌঁছাবো।
Translation: “We will not retreat due to any Israeli attack, we will definitely reach there.”

Shahidul Alam shared that they had sailed through stormy weather on Tuesday, but now the storm has calmed.
“ঝড়ের আগেই যাওয়ার জন্য জাহাজের ক্যাপ্টেন দ্রুত এগিয়ে নিয়ে যাচ্ছিলেন। আমরা সুমুদ ফ্লোটিলার একেবারে শেষ অংশে আছি। এর আগের ফ্লোটিলাগুলো ইতোমধ্যেই গাজার কাছে পৌঁছে গেছে।”
Translation: “The captain was pushing forward quickly to beat the storm. We are at the very end of the flotilla. The ships ahead of us have already reached near Gaza.”

He added that Israeli forces attacked some of the flotilla ships yesterday night, but their ship had not yet reached that area.
“গতকাল সমুদ্রে তুরস্কের একটি নৌজাহাজ দেখেছিলাম, সেটি দূরেই ছিল। তবে আজকে কারা জানি না। কিন্তু আমরা ক্রমশই কাছে এগিয়ে যাচ্ছি। সেখানে অবশ্যই পৌঁছাবো। ইসরায়েলের আক্রমণে কোনো কারণেই কোনোভাবেই পেছনে যাবো না।”
Translation: “Yesterday, I saw a Turkish ship far away in the sea. Today I am not sure who is around, but we are moving closer. We will definitely reach there. We will not retreat under any Israeli attack.”
He also noted that the sea is currently rough with some risk of storms, but the rain has stopped and they are continuing their journey.
