Strategic Positioning: Separate from the Sumud Flotilla

The flotilla’s journey is independent of the Sumud Flotilla, as planned from the outset. With the recent capture of Sumud Flotilla boats by Israeli forces, the expedition now consists of nine vessels: eight smaller boats and one large ship. The team expects to overtake other boats today, taking the lead in heading toward Gaza—a position that carries risks the crew was prepared to face.

Crew and Purpose: A Mission Beyond Humanitarian Aid

The vessel carries 96 people, including 82 media and medical professionals, along with key organisers and the ship’s crew. While the team has brought supplies to avoid burdening the local population in Gaza, the mission is not primarily humanitarian. The central purpose is to break the illegal siege and protest the killings of journalists and medical staff, alongside civilians in Gaza, particularly amid foreign media restrictions.
