Mother’s Emotional Words Sparked Reactions
In the televised report, Ripon’s mother was heard saying,
“খুব কষ্ট করে মানুষ করছি, এখন পরিচয়ও দেয় না। আমরা গরিব, পরিচয় দিলে যদি ওর মান-ইজ্জত না থাকে!”
Translation: “I raised him with great struggle, but now he doesn’t even acknowledge us. We are poor — maybe he feels ashamed of us.”
The report claimed that Ripon now lives separately with his wife and children and doesn’t support his parents financially. After the broadcast, many people criticized him online, calling him “arrogant” and “ungrateful.”
A Viral Turn of Emotion
However, the situation changed dramatically after another video spread online. The clip showed Ripon breaking down in tears while hugging his mother.
He was heard crying and saying,
“তোমারে দেহি না আমি? আব্বারে দেহি না আমি? তুমি ইড্ডা কী করলা? আমার জীবনডা শেষ করলা!”
Translation: “Haven’t I seen you, haven’t I seen father? what have you done? You’ve ruined my life!”
The video went viral instantly. Many of those who were criticizing him earlier changed their tone and expressed sympathy.
One commenter wrote,
“মা-ছেলের সম্পর্ক পবিত্র। এই সম্পর্ক নিয়ে বিচারের আগে ভাবা দরকার।” (Translation: “The bond between a mother and son is sacred. We should think before judging it.”)
Another said,
“সাময়িক ভুল হতেই পারে, কিন্তু অনুতাপ থাকলে মাফ হওয়া উচিত।” (Translation: “Temporary mistakes can happen, but if there is remorse, forgiveness should follow.”)

Ripon Responds to the Controversy
Speaking about the situation, Ripon said:
“এই মুহূর্তে কথা বলার মানসিক অবস্থায় নেই। তবে খুব শিগগিরই সব প্রশ্নের উত্তর দেব। আমি আমার পরিবারকে সব সময় দেখে এসেছি, ভবিষ্যতেও দেখব। কারও কোনো কষ্ট থাকলে তা পূরণ করব।”
Translation: “Right now, I’m not in a state to talk. But soon I will answer all questions. I have always cared for my family and will continue to do so. If anyone has been hurt, I’ll make it right.”
He also accused some TV journalists of invading his privacy.
“কয়েকজন টেলিভিশন সাংবাদিক কোনো রকম অনুমতি ছাড়াই আমার বাড়িতে ঢুকে পড়ে। ঘরে নারী সদস্য থাকার পরও ভিডিও করে। তারা পরিবারকে হেনস্তা করেছে।”
Translation: “A few journalists entered my house without permission. Despite women being present, they filmed inside and harassed my family.”

Translation: “Friend, if you ever feel lonely, call for me, I’ll talk with you all night.”
