Fakhrul Calls for National Unity
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged the nation to unite and avoid creating divisions. Speaking at a meeting at Gopalpur School field in Thakurgaon’s Garrea Union on Wednesday (15 October), he said,
Translation: “Even I don’t fully understand PR. Save the country, don’t create division.”
He criticized those who are demanding “PR system” and “referendum” as a precondition for elections, saying they are trying to disrupt the democratic process.

PR Debate Should Happen in Parliament
Fakhrul explained that political parties should discuss PR (Proportional Representation) inside parliament.
Translation: “The debate on PR should happen in parliament. The issues parties agree on will be signed in the July Charter, and others can go to a referendum.”
He requested everyone to ensure the election takes place peacefully, ending political unrest and hatred.
“We Don’t Want Division or Violence”
Fakhrul emphasized the need for national harmony and rejection of religious and political division.
Translation: “We don’t want politics of violence or Hindu-Muslim division. We want to live peacefully together.”
BNP’s Election Promises
Mirza Fakhrul also shared what BNP plans to do if elected to power.
Translation: “If BNP is elected, we will create jobs for 10 million people and provide every family with a family card.”
He added that the party would focus on health, education, and farmers’ welfare.
Abdullah Muhammad Taher’s Remark on PR
Meanwhile, BNP leader Abdullah Muhammad Taher humorously addressed the ongoing PR debate.
Translation: “If you don’t understand PR, join my class—I’ll teach you.”
His statement quickly spread on social media, with many supporters praising his confident tone.

“Let Democracy Decide”
Fakhrul concluded his speech by urging everyone to vote freely and avoid division.
Translation: “I will vote for whoever I want. We don’t want to create division. Whoever people choose will be the winner.”
He reminded everyone that the BNP’s symbol is the paddy sheaf, asking for unity and faith in democracy.
