The university administration has expelled two students of the mass communication and journalism discipline of Khulna University on charges of insulting religion. Among the expelled students, fourth-year student Md. Russell Sheikh has been expelled permanently, and third-year student Tonoy Roy has been expelled for two years.

Administration confirmation
On Wednesday (October 15) evening, the university’s Director of Student Affairs, Professor Dr. Nazmus Sadat, confirmed this information to the media. He said,
এই দুজন শিক্ষার্থীর বিরুদ্ধে ধর্ম অবমাননার অভিযোগ এসেছিল।তারই প্রেক্ষিতে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় প্রশাসন একটি তদন্ত কমিটি গঠন করে। পরে তদন্ত কমিটির প্রতিবেদন গত ৯ অক্টোবর ২৭তম শৃঙ্খলা বোর্ডের সভায় উত্থাপন করা হয়। শৃঙ্খলা বোর্ড সর্বসম্মতিক্রমে এই সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে।
Translation: These two students were accused of insulting religion. In view of this, the university administration formed an investigation committee. Later, the report of the investigation committee was presented in the 27th disciplinary board meeting on October 9. The disciplinary board took this decision unanimously.
Professor Dr. Najmus Sadat said,
যাদের বিরুদ্ধে এই সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হয়েছে, তারা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের বিধি মোতাবেক যথাযথ কর্তৃপক্ষের মাধ্যমে একাডেমিক কাউন্সিলের কাছে আপিল করতে পারবে।
Translation: Those against whom this decision has been taken will be able to appeal to the Academic Council through the appropriate authority in accordance with university rules.

Background of the allegations
It is learnt that the two expelled students were residents of Bir Shrestha Ruhul Amin Hall. They were accused of insulting religion on social media. In the wake of this incident, on July 1, general students formed a human chain at the university’s Hadi Chattar demanding their trial.
