The incident
Anisa Ahmed Arifa, the HSC student who drew national attention for missing her first exam day to take her ailing mother to the doctor, has unfortunately failed her HSC examination. According to Md. Asaduzzaman, principal of Dhaka Board Laboratory School and College, Anisa has failed in Bangla and Islamic History. She appeared in the Humanities group under the Dhaka Education Board. The result was officially confirmed around 11 a.m. on Thursday (October 16).

Earlier, Anisa’s story became widely discussed on social media after her act of compassion on the first day of the HSC exam. On June 26, the day of the Bangla 1st Paper exam, her mother suddenly fell seriously ill.
Instead of going to the exam center, Anisa chose to take her mother to the doctor. After ensuring her mother received medical attention, she left the clinic around 10 a.m., but by then it was too late to reach the examination center. When asked about her decision, Anisa said,
একদিকে ছিল আমার মা, অন্যদিকে পরীক্ষা। আমি জানতাম মা ছাড়া আমার কেউ নেই। তাই মাকে রেখে পরীক্ষা দিতে পারিনি।
Translation: On one side was my mother, on the other side was the exam. I knew I had no one but my mother. So I couldn’t leave my mother and take the exam.
