Chief Adviser Stresses Neutrality in Election Management

Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has stated that all administrative reshuffles before the national election will be conducted under his direct authority.
He emphasized that the election is like a battlefield and only capable, neutral, and disciplined officials will be chosen to maintain peace and order during the vote. Said the Chief Adviser,

Translation: “The election is a battlefield. Our duty is to remain neutral. Only those who can ensure peace and order will be chosen.”

He also added that all necessary steps will be taken to make the election peaceful and impartial.

Meeting with BNP Leaders

Dr. Yunus made these remarks during a meeting with Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leaders on Tuesday evening (October 21) at the State Guest House Jamuna.
The statement was confirmed through a press release from the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing.

He informed BNP leaders that, as the adviser in charge of the Public Administration Ministry, all reshuffles in the administration before the election will be made directly under his supervision.
For the position of Deputy Commissioner (DC), only qualified officials from multiple “fit lists” will be appointed before the polls.

BNP Leaders’ Concerns and Demands

BNP leaders requested the Chief Adviser to keep controversial officials, especially those who served under the Awami League government, away from election duties.
They also urged him to maintain strict neutrality in administrative appointments.

Fakhrul Calls for Caretaker-Style Neutrality

After the meeting, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir spoke to the media, saying that the interim government must operate in the spirit of a caretaker government to make the upcoming election meaningful, free, and acceptable. He said,

Call for Removal of Biased Officials

Fakhrul also emphasized the need to remove biased officials from the Secretariat, judiciary, and district administration and replace them with neutral officers.
He demanded that police appointments and promotions also be based on neutrality. Mirza Fakhrul said,

Translation: “Those loyal to fascists must be removed from the Secretariat, and neutral people should be appointed.”

He further noted that the interim government must uphold neutrality by removing any partisan figures still holding positions within the administration.
