Apology for 1971 Liberation War
Jamaat Chief Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has apologized for his party’s stance during Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971.
During a meeting with journalists in New York on Wednesday (October 22), he expressed deep regret and sought forgiveness.
He said,
“একাত্তরে বাংলাদেশের মুক্তিযুদ্ধের সময় আমাদের দলের অবস্থান ভুল ছিল। সেই ভুলের জন্য আমি এবং আমার দল নিঃশর্তভাবে ক্ষমা প্রার্থনা করছি।”
Translation: “Our party’s position during Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971 was wrong. For that mistake, I and my party unconditionally seek forgiveness.”
“সাধারণ ডিম বিক্রি করে আমরা কীভাবে ১৫ লক্ষ কাস্টমার এনেছি—এই বইয়ে আছে তার বাস্তব কাহিনি!”
Proposal for National Referendum
In the same event, Jamaat Chief Dr. Shafiqur Rahman shared that Jamaat has demanded a national referendum to reflect public opinion before the upcoming national election.
He added,
“নির্বাচন নিয়ে কোনো অনিশ্চয়তা নেই। ফেব্রুয়ারির মধ্যেই নির্বাচন অনুষ্ঠিত হবে বলে আশা করছি।”
Translation: “There is no uncertainty about the election. We hope it will be held by February.”
Jamaat Chief emphasized the importance of public opinion in decisions regarding population registration (PR), election procedures, and political reforms.
“আপনার ব্যবসা এখন অনলাইনে— Storola-এর সাথে সহজ ও স্মার্টভাবে!”
Assurance for Minority Communities
Addressing concerns about minority safety, the Jamaat chief assured that all citizens would enjoy equal constitutional rights if his party comes to power.
“জামায়াত যদি ক্ষমতায় আসে, তাহলে সাংবিধানিক অধিকার অনুযায়ী দেশে সব ধর্ম-বর্ণের মানুষ নিরাপদে ও নির্বিঘ্নে বসবাস করতে পারবে।”
Translation: “If Jamaat comes to power, all people of every religion and community will be able to live safely and peacefully under constitutional rights.”

Relations with India
On relations with India, Dr. Rahman stated that Jamaat wants to establish a relationship based on equality and mutual respect.
He said,
“ভারতের সঙ্গে জামায়াত সমতার ভিত্তিতে পারস্পরিক সম্মানজনক সম্পর্ক গড়ে তুলতে চায়। বন্ধুত্বপূর্ণ সম্পর্কের পক্ষে আমরা।”
Translation: “Jamaat wants to build a relationship with India based on equality and mutual respect. We stand for friendly relations.”
