Although her supporters and a section of party members expected her candidacy, BNP has left the seat vacant, reportedly for a partner organization.
The announcement came on Monday (October 3) during a press conference at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan, where Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir revealed the names of 237 preliminary candidates across the country.
In Brahmanbaria, the finalized candidates are:
-
Brahmanbaria-1 (Nasirnagar): M.A. Hannan, President of Nasirnagar Upazila BNP
-
Brahmanbaria-3 (Sadar and Bijoynagar): Khaled Hossain Mahbub Shyamal, District BNP President
-
Brahmanbaria-4 (Kasba and Akhaura): Mushfiqur Rahman, BNP Chairperson’s Adviser
-
Brahmanbaria-5 (Nabinagar): Abdul Mannan, President of Nabinagar Upazila BNP
Meanwhile, the Brahmanbaria-6 (Bancharampur) seat also remains unannounced, with speculation that it may be reserved for an alliance partner, possibly for Junaid Saki, chief coordinator of the Ganosamhati Andolon.

Within Brahmanbaria-4, BNP stronghold tensions grew as prominent aspirants Engineer Nazmul Huda Khondaker and Kabir Ahmed Bhuiyan the elder brother of Tarique Rahman’s close associate Abdur Rahman Sani were left out of the final list.
When asked about the selection process, District BNP General Secretary Sirajul Islam stated:
‘মনোনয়নের ক্ষেত্রে দলের ভারপ্রাপ্ত চেয়ারম্যানের সিদ্ধান্তই চূড়ান্ত। তিনি সব বিষয়ে চুলচেরা বিশ্লেষণ করেই প্রার্থী মনোনয়ন দিয়েছেন। আমরা দলের মনোনীত প্রার্থীদের জন্য কাজ করব।’
Translation:“The acting chairman’s decision is final. He made the nominations after thorough analysis, and we will work for the officially nominated candidates.”
