NCP Leader Warns BNP of Political Consequences
National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari has warned that if the BNP returns to power through a deal with Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the party will eventually fall under the control of the NCP.

He made this remark on Tuesday (November 4) evening at a seminar organized at the NCP’s temporary office in Banglamotor, Dhaka.
“বিএনপির বর্তমানে যে ইকোনমিক পলিসি তা দিয়ে বাংলাদেশের অর্থনৈতিক উত্তরণ সম্ভব নয়। বিএনপি যদি জোর-জবরদস্তি করে ড. ইউনূসের সঙ্গে ডিল করে, লন্ডনে ডিল করেছিল, নতুনভাবে সেই ডিল নবায়ন করে যদি ক্ষমতায় যায় তাহলে এনসিপির হাতে তাদের পতন হবে।”
Translation: “BNP’s current economic policy cannot bring real progress to Bangladesh. If the BNP forcefully makes a deal with Dr. Yunus — as they did earlier in London — and returns to power by renewing that deal, their downfall will come through the NCP.”
Comments on Ziaur Rahman’s Leadership
Nasiruddin Patwari also spoke about former President Ziaur Rahman, describing him as a “lucky man” who rose to power unexpectedly.
“জিয়াউর রহমান একজন লাকি ম্যান ছিলেন, ক্ষমতা না চাইতেও তিনি পেয়ে ছিলেন। তার কিছু ক্যারিশমেটিক জায়গা ছিল, সেই জায়গা থেকে তিনি অর্থনৈতিক কিছু স্বনির্ভরতার জায়গায় বাংলাদেশকে নিয়ে গেছেন। কিন্তু সে সময় সুযোগ ছিল বাংলাদেশকে নতুন করে পুনর্গঠন করার।”
Translation: “Ziaur Rahman was a lucky man; he got power even without seeking it. He had some charismatic qualities, which helped him lead Bangladesh toward some level of economic self-reliance. However, that period was a missed opportunity to rebuild the country in a new way.”

Missed Chance for Reform
Nasiruddin Patwari added that although Ziaur Rahman worked on rebuilding the economy, his political reform efforts were not successful.
“জিয়াউর রহমান অর্থনীতিকে পুনর্গঠন করেছেন। রাজনৈতিক পুনর্গঠনের কিছু চেষ্টা চালিয়েছেন কিন্তু তিনি সফল হননি। তিনি যদি চাইতেন, তার হাতে এত ক্ষমতা ছিল জনগণ যেভাবে সাপোর্ট দিয়েছিল, বাংলাদেশের গতিপথ তিনি ঘুরিয়ে দিতে পারতেন। ওই সময় বাংলাদেশে নতুন একটা রিফর্ম প্রসেসের মধ্যে যেতে পারত। কিন্তু জিয়াউর রহমান ঐতিহাসিকভাবে এই সুযোগ মিস করেছেন।”
Translation: “Ziaur Rahman restructured the economy and tried to reform the political system, but he failed to achieve that goal. With the power and public support, he had, he could have changed Bangladesh’s direction and led it into a new reform process. But historically, he missed that opportunity.”
