An armed attack in Bagowan Union of Ruajan Upazila, Chattogram, left five BNP and associate organization members injured by gunfire on Wednesday night (November 5).
The attack took place around 11 PM in the Choudhury Para area of the union’s 4th Ward when a group of unidentified assailants arrived on motorcycles and opened fire.
The injured were identified as Abdullah Suman, general secretary of the Ruajan Upazila unit of Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal; Mohammad Ismail, vice president of Bagowan Union Krishak Dal; Khorshed Alam Chowdhury, joint convener of the Union Sramik Dal; Rabiul Hossain Rubel, vice president of the Union Jubo Dal and BNP activist Mohammad Sohel.

Locals immediately rescued the victims and took them to Chattogram Medical College Hospital. Three of the injured, including Suman who sustained a critical bullet wound to the chest were admitted, while two others were released after receiving primary treatment.

According to witnesses and party sources, all injured individuals are loyal to Golam Akbar Khondaker, former president of the BNP’s North Chattogram unit. They allege that supporters of another BNP leader, Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury, carried out the attack over internal party rivalry.
Police later arrived at the scene to control the situation. However, law enforcement officials have not yet confirmed the cause of the shooting or identified the attackers.
