Student resistance is mounting against the Awami League’s controversial ‘Dhaka Lockdown’ program scheduled for November 13. Although no official counter-program has been announced, both Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and Islami Chhatra Shibir have confirmed they will remain active in the capital to prevent potential chaos.
Sources within JCD said a discussion on the issue is likely to take place during the organization’s meeting on Monday (November 10). Meanwhile, Islami Chhatra Shibir confirmed that they are considering organizing their own activities on that day to “maintain order” in the capital.

JCD General Secretary Nasir Uddin told that the Awami League had failed to show any street presence for over a year. He added,
‘এক দেড় বছরের মধ্যে রাজপথে আওয়ামী লীগ কোনো সক্রিয় অবস্থান দেখাতে পারেনি। ছাত্রজনতা যারা গণঅভ্যুত্থানের পক্ষে ছিল তারাই আওয়ামী লীগের সন্ত্রাসী কার্যক্রমকে পরাস্ত করেছে, যারা সন্ত্রাসী কার্যক্রম করতে চায় তাদেরকে আইনশৃঙ্খলা বাহিনীর হাতে দিয়েছে।’
Translation: “The student masses who stood for the people’s uprising defeated Awami League’s terrorist activities. Those attempting violence have been handed over to law enforcement.”
He added,
‘যতবারই আওয়ামী লীগ বিশৃঙ্খলা করার চেষ্টা করেছে বিএনপি ও তার অঙ্গসংগঠনগুলো রাজপথে শক্তি দিয়ে তাদের পরাস্ত করেছে। যদি আগামীতেও চেষ্টা করে তাহলে একইভাবে করবে। কিন্তু একইসাথে এটি আইনশৃঙ্খলা রক্ষাকারী বাহিনীর দেখা উচিত বলে মনে করি।’
Translation: “Whenever the Awami League tried to create chaos, BNP and its student fronts confronted them with strength. If they attempt again, the response will be the same. However, law enforcement should also play their role.”
JCD Central Organizing Secretary Amanullah Aman said,

‘এদেরকে প্রতিহত করার জন্য শুধু ছাত্রদল নয় বরং ফ্যাসিবাদ বিরোধী সকল শক্তি মাঠে থাকবে। ১৩ তারিখের যে আওয়াজ দিচ্ছে এগুলার কোনো বাস্তবায়ন বাংলাদেশে হবে না।’
Translation:“Not only JCD, but all anti-fascist forces will be in the field to resist them. Their so-called call for November 13 will not materialize in Bangladesh.”
Islami Chhatra Shibir Secretary General Nurul Islam said the organization has not yet finalized a decision but plans to keep its members ready. He added,
‘এখনো আনুষ্ঠানিক ভাবে আমরা সিদ্ধান্ত নেইনি। তবে আওয়ামী লীগ যেন বিশৃঙ্খলা না করতে পারে সেজন্য আমরা মাঠে থাকব, সেদিন কর্মসূচী রাখার চিন্তা রয়েছে আমাদের। তবে আমরা মাঠপর্যায়ের প্রশাসনকে বলার চেষ্টা করেছি, এগুলা তো মূলত আইনশৃঙ্খলা বাহিনীর দায়িত্ব।’
Translation:“We intend to remain in the field to prevent chaos. However, maintaining law and order is primarily the responsibility of law enforcement agencies.”
