Renowned Bangladeshi filmmaker and actor Gazi Rakayet recently shared a personal story in a podcast discussion. He said that he once tried to find “errors” in the Quran, but in the process, he found himself deeply affected and eventually accepted what he describes as truth.
From Atheism to Faith
Gazi Rakayet, a National Film Award-winning director, said that he was once strongly influenced by atheism. He studied at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology and developed a scientific and logical mindset. Personal tragedies, including the death of a close relative, led him to question the existence of a creator. During this time, he read works by scientists like Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking, which strengthened his rational beliefs and led him away from religion.
Attempt to Find ‘Errors’ in the Quran
At one point, he decided to critically examine the Quran to prove what he believed were inconsistencies. He collected a Bangla translation of the Quran for this purpose. However, within a few days of reading, he said he began to feel deeply moved by its messages.

Verses That Made Him Reflect
He mentioned that certain verses, especially about the creation of humans and the concept of soul, made him think deeply. He also claimed that topics like the Big Bang theory, movement of the sun and moon, and natural phenomena are reflected in the Quran in a way that surprised him.
Interest in Scientific and Mathematical Aspects
As an engineer, Gazi Rakayet said he was impressed by what he described as mathematical patterns and balance in the Quran’s structure. He believes that the arrangement of chapters and verses shows a level of complexity that is difficult for humans to create.
‘Surrender’ to Truth
After this experience, he gradually returned to Islam and accepted belief in one God. He described this change using the word “surrender,” explaining it as accepting truth after deeper understanding. He said:
“কোনো কিছু সম্পর্কে চূড়ান্ত মন্তব্য করার আগে সেটিকে গভীরভাবে জানা দরকার। না জেনে মন্তব্য করলে ভুল বোঝাবুঝি তৈরি হতে পারে।”
English Translation:
“Before making a final comment on something, it is important to understand it deeply. Without proper knowledge, misunderstandings can arise.”
His statement has sparked mixed reactions on social media. Some people see it as a personal journey of realization, while others are discussing and debating his views. Currently, Gazi Rakayet said he is regularly practicing religion and hopes to conduct international research on the scientific and mathematical aspects of the Quran in the future.
