A person died after falling into Turag river while trying to escape after being chased by locals after setting fire to a bus parked on the side of the road on Mirpur embankment in the capital. At that time, another person was caught by locals and handed over to the police, said Shah Ali police station OC Mohammad Golam Azam.
Situation at the time of the incident
The OC said,
বৃহস্পতিবার রাত সাড়ে ১০টার দিকে বেড়িবাঁধের তামান্না পার্কের সামনে রাখা কিরণমালা পরিবহনের একটি বাসে অগ্নিসংযোগের সময় এ ঘটনা ঘটে। এ সময় আগুন দিয়ে পালানোর সময় স্থানীয়দের ধাওয়ায় তুরাগ নদে পড়ে একজনের মৃত্যু হয়েছে। তবে নিহত ব্যক্তির পরিচয় জানাতে পারেনি শাহ আলী থানা পুলিশ।
Translation: The incident took place around 10:30 pm on Thursday when a Kiranmala Paribahan bus parked in front of Tamanna Park on the embankment was set on fire. One person died after falling into the Turag River as locals chased him while trying to escape. However, Shah Ali Police Station could not reveal the identity of the deceased.

SI Anwar of the police station said,
বাসে আগুন লাগিয়ে পালানোর সময় জনগণের ধাওয়ায় একজন তুরাগ নদীতে পড়ে যান। পরে তাকে মৃত অবস্থায় উদ্ধার করা হয়। একই সময় স্থানীয়দের হাতে রুদ্র মুহাম্মদ (২০) নামে আরেকজন আটক হয়। পরে পুলিশ তাকে হেফাজতে নিয়েছে।
Translation: “While setting fire to the bus and fleeing, one person fell into the Turag River due to the people’s chase. He was later rescued dead. At the same time, another person named Rudra Muhammad (20) was arrested by the locals. Later, the police took him into custody.”
Eyewitness accounts
Eyewitnesses said that two miscreants set fire to a parked Dhaka Metro bus number B-13-1262 and tried to escape. Locals, sensing the incident, chased them and arrested one of them while the other jumped into the Turag River while trying to escape. He was later rescued in an unconscious state and sent to the hospital.
Fire Service Activities
Upon receiving information about the incident, a unit of the Fire Service reached the spot and brought the fire under control. The Fire Service said that the seats and window glass inside the bus were completely burnt in the fire.
