Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman has reminded the nation that true education goes far beyond academic success. Speaking at the reunion of former cadets of Joypurhat Girls’ Cadet College on Friday (14 November), he said that-
Translation:“Many of us are self-taught, but not well-taught. We achieve good results in school, college, and university, we earn PhDs, and we take on important responsibilities of the state. But due to a lack of morality in some, we often fail to perform well. Morality is extremely important. Being a good student or having good results is not enough. We all must become good human beings. Cadet colleges have been working with this goal in mind.”
General Waker-Uz-Zaman also urged the cadets and alumnae to dedicate themselves to the service of the country, highlighting the irreplaceable role of women in national development.

Translation:We want women’s leadership and empowerment in various fields. Women will strengthen their position across sectors and contribute to nation-building. Although half of the country’s population is women, it is wrong to think that the nation can reach the peak of development without them. Therefore, women must be developed with proper skills.
The speech was delivered on the second day of the three-day reunion of former cadets of Joypurhat Girls’ Cadet College. The event also featured remarks by the Principal, Mohammad Ariful Haque, and the President of the Joypurhat Ex-Cadets Association, Mousumi Shikha.
Before the ceremony, General Waker-Uz-Zaman inspected the reunion parade and received the salute. Among those present were Major General Towhidul Ahmed, Commander of the 11th Infantry Division and Bogura Area; Komolika Zaman, wife of the Army Chief; Joypurhat Deputy Commissioner Afroza Akhtar Chowdhury; Superintendent of Police Muhammad Abdul Wahab; teachers, officials, alumnae, and guardians of the college.

The gathering reflected the deep bond former cadets share with their institution and celebrated their collective journey toward leadership, discipline, and service.
General Waker-Uz-Zaman’s message served as a timely reminder that academic success alone cannot ensure progress—moral integrity and responsible citizenship are equally essential.
His strong emphasis on women’s leadership highlighted the transformative role female cadets can play in shaping Bangladesh’s future. The reunion event became not just a celebration of memories, but a call to action for building a nation guided by values, discipline, and inclusion.
