Statement After Tribunal Verdict
Sadiq Kayem made this comment on Monday (17 November) through a Facebook post, soon after the International Crimes Tribunal announced the death sentence against Sheikh Hasina.
His Facebook Post
In his post, he strongly supported the verdict and expressed satisfaction that justice had finally been delivered for the victims of previous state violence.
Translation: “The only revenge for the blood of the martyrs is justice. The death penalty was the only rightful punishment for bloodthirsty and traitorous killer Hasina. Through the execution of this verdict, Bangladesh will be freed from the stain of fascism, Insha’Allah.”
Context of the Reaction
His statement reflects the sentiment of a section of students and political activists who believe that the verdict is essential for establishing justice and ending authoritarian practices that existed under Hasina’s rule.
