Home Minister and BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has said that the current government will accept the indemnity granted to those who took part in the July mass uprising. He made the statement on Tuesday morning (24 March) while speaking to journalists before attending the first meeting of a special committee of the 13th National Parliament at the cabinet room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
Government Decisions Will Reflect the Spirit of the July Uprising
The Home Minister said that all actions of the current government will be guided by the ideals and expectations of the July movement. He said,
“জুলাই গণঅভ্যুত্থানের মূল চেতনা ও আকাঙ্ক্ষাকে ধারণ করেই বর্তমান সরকার যাবতীয় পদক্ষেপ গ্রহণ করবে।”
Translation: “The present government will take all necessary steps while holding the core spirit and aspirations of the July mass uprising.”
Review of 133 Ordinances Issued During Interim Government
Salahuddin Ahmed also informed that 133 ordinances were issued during the tenure of the interim government, and these will now be reviewed in detail.
He said,
“অন্তর্বর্তীকালীন সরকারের আমলে মোট ১৩৩টি অধ্যাদেশ জারি করা হয়েছিল। আজকের বৈঠকে এসব অধ্যাদেশ নিয়ে বিস্তারিত পর্যালোচনা করা হবে।”
Translation:
“A total of 133 ordinances were issued during the interim government period. These will be reviewed in detail in today’s meeting.”
According to parliamentary rules, the government must take a final decision on these ordinances within 30 working days.

He further said,
“সংসদীয় নিয়ম অনুযায়ী, ৩০ কর্মদিবসের মধ্যে এই বিষয়গুলোর চূড়ান্ত সুরাহা করতে হবে।”
Translation: “According to parliamentary rules, these matters must be settled within 30 working days.”
Priority to Public Demands and July Movement Ideals
The minister emphasized that every decision will give priority to public expectations and the spirit of the July uprising.
He said,
“আমরা প্রতিটি ক্ষেত্রে জুলাই গণঅভ্যুত্থানের আকাঙ্ক্ষাকে সর্বোচ্চ অগ্রাধিকার দিয়ে সিদ্ধান্ত নেবো।”
Translation: “In every case, we will take decisions by giving the highest priority to the aspirations of the July mass uprising.”
Government May Change Politically Controversial Institutional Names
Salahuddin Ahmed also spoke about the naming of different institutions during the previous Awami League government. He said that renaming politically controversial institutions is one of the main agenda items of the committee meeting. He added that the government will take effective steps to change names that have been widely criticized by the public.
Special Parliamentary Committee Meeting Begins
The special committee meeting has already started at the parliament building. Senior leaders from both the ruling party and the opposition have taken part in the discussion, making it an important political development.
