A Powerful 5.7 Earthquake shook several parts of Bangladesh, including the capital Dhaka, on Thursday morning.
The sudden shaking caused panic among residents, and many people quickly ran outside to open areas.

Magnitude and Timing

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the tremor was recorded at 10:38 AM.
The earthquake measured 5.7 on the Richter scale, which is considered a moderately strong quake capable of shaking buildings and causing structural cracks.

Epicentre Location

The epicentre of the Powerful 5.7 Earthquake was located in Madhabdi, Narsingdi, which is about 13 km east of the Seismic Centre in Agargaon, Dhaka.
The exact coordinates were reported as:

People React in Panic

During and right after the Powerful 5.7 Earthquake, many residents in Dhaka and other affected areas rushed outside their homes, offices, and buildings.
People were seen gathering on streets and open spaces, fearing aftershocks.

A photo captured by Jahidul Islam showed people standing outside as buildings shook.

Expert Opinion

Professor Syed Humayun Akhter, former Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Open University and former Chairman of the Department of Geology, confirmed that the earthquake was felt strongly across different parts of Bangladesh.

He estimated that the epicentre depth was between 10 and 12 kilometres, which indicates a shallow earthquake—usually felt more strongly on the surface.

He explained that Bangladesh experienced the tremor at an intensity level of approximately 5 to 6, making it one of the strongest quakes felt in the country in recent times.

Reports of Damage

Some reports are coming in about buildings tilting and sustaining structural damage, but these reports have not yet been officially verified.
Authorities are still assessing the situation as updates continue to arrive.
