On the first working day after the holy Eid-ul-Fitr holiday, Education Minister Dr. A.N.M. Ehsanul Haque exchanged greetings with the officials and employees of the Ministry of Education. During this, he directed to ensure free education opportunities up to university level for the children of martyrs of July Movement and injured and disabled ‘July Student Fighters’.

This instruction was given in the meeting room of the Ministry of Education on Tuesday (March 24). Senior officials of the Secondary and Higher Education Division, Technical and Madrasa Education Division, and Primary and Mass Education Division were present in the meeting.

Policy Planning and Future Strategy

The meeting discussed in detail the 180-day program as per the BNP’s election manifesto for the national elections, the plan for the 2026-2027 fiscal year, and the development strategy for the education sector for the next 5 years.

The Education Minister emphasized on taking quick steps to implement the election pledge and announced the implementation of various programs to ensure modernization and inclusive development in the education sector.

Modern Education System Initiatives

The Education Minister said that the following programs will be implemented to make the education system timely—

  • ‘One Teacher, One Tab’
  • Multimedia Classroom
  • Compulsory Third Language Education
  • Technical Education for All
  • ‘One Child, One Tree’ Program

In addition, importance was given to providing free school dresses and shoes (sneakers) for students, student loan facilities for higher education abroad, and honoring and recognizing Hafiz Quran reciters.

Call for Implementation of the 180-Day Program

The Education Minister called on all concerned to work sincerely in implementing the 180-day program. He said that this program has been taken for the welfare of the people of the country and to realize their dreams. He further mentioned that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s goal is to realize the dreams of the people of Bangladesh.

Teacher Training and Quality Improvement

The meeting directed to take practical steps to remove the bottleneck of teacher training in improving the quality of primary education. It was said that training of all teachers should be ensured quickly by conducting training programs in multiple shifts if necessary.

In addition, instructions were given to bring nationalized teachers above the age of 50 under training.

Special initiative for students

It was decided in the meeting that free school dresses and sneakers will be distributed to more than two lakh students in every upazila of the country within the next 180 days. In addition, a plan has been taken to distribute these materials free of charge to all primary students across the country as soon as possible.

At the same time, a plan has been taken to provide tabs to all teachers of primary, technical, madrasa and school-college within 1 year.

New initiative for talent development

It has been decided to launch Mathematics Olympiad at the upazila level to develop the talent of students. In addition, a decision has been taken to organize mandatory debate competitions in every educational institution and form debate clubs.
