The government will work to achieve international recognition of the 1971 genocide, said State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam. She made this statement while talking to media personnel at the Foreign Ministry on Tuesday (March 24), the first working day after Eid.
Statement by the State Minister for Foreign Affairs
The State Minister for Foreign Affairs said that the current government will continue to work vigorously to achieve international recognition of the genocide committed in 1971. She mentioned that the process of obtaining recognition of the 1971 genocide is already underway and the government is viewing the matter with great importance.
Relevance of history and national interests
Shama Obaid Islam also said,
‘একাত্তরের গণহত্যা নিয়ে সরকার কাজ করবে—এটি অত্যন্ত জরুরি। কারণ আমাদের স্বাধীনতা ও সার্বভৌমত্বের সঙ্গে এই ইতিহাস গভীরভাবে জড়িত।’
Translation: “It is very important that the government act on the 1971 genocide. Because this history is deeply intertwined with our independence and sovereignty.”
