Growing Concern Over ‘Sugar Daddy’ Exploitation
A new social and economic crisis known as the “Sugar Daddy” network is spreading quickly in Bangladesh. This group involves wealthy and influential men who lure financially weak young women into immoral and exploitative relationships. According to reports, these women are facing physical, mental, and digital abuse.
Legal Notice Sent by Supreme Court Lawyer
Supreme Court lawyer Md. Mahmudul Hasan has issued a legal notice addressing the seriousness of the issue. On Tuesday (25 November), he sent the notice to the Secretary of the Home Ministry, the Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), and the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
He warned that the uncontrolled supply of expensive gifts—including cash, cars, foreign trips, and costly phones—may involve illegal financial transactions.

Allegations of Blackmail and Digital Exploitation
The notice also states that some of the young women are secretly recorded through inappropriate photos and videos, which are later used for blackmail. This situation threatens their mental health, dignity, and social security.
Authorities fear that this criminal network may also contribute to family breakdown, social degradation, and potential national security risks.
Demand for a Strong National Task Force
Lawyer Mahmudul Hasan urged the government to create a powerful national task force including the Home Ministry, Police, CID, Special Branch, Cyber Crime Unit, and NBR.
He warned that if no action is taken within seven working days, he will file a public interest writ petition under Article 102 of the Constitution.
Because of this network, many young women are falling into severe mental distress and receiving luxury gifts like cash, cars, foreign trips, and expensive phones, which are believed to be part of uncontrolled and illegal funding.
Some young women are being secretly filmed with obscene images and videos, which are later used for blackmail.
