US Announces Grant to Restore Historic Mosque

The United States Embassy in Dhaka has announced a $235,000 grant under the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) to restore the historic Musa Khan Mosque. The announcement was made during an event held at University of Dhaka, marking another milestone in the long-standing cultural collaboration between the United States and Bangladesh.

Strengthening 25-Year Cultural Partnership

This latest initiative further deepens a 25-year cultural partnership between the two countries. Over the years, the AFCP program has funded more than $1 million in 13 preservation projects across Bangladesh, reflecting a continued commitment to safeguarding the nation’s rich heritage.

According to a press release issued on Tuesday by the United States Embassy in Dhaka, the project will be carried out in close collaboration with the Department of Archaeology Bangladesh.

Restoration, Digital Archive, and Training

Under this initiative, efforts will focus on restoring the mosque’s Islamic architectural features, ensuring the preservation of its historical integrity. Additionally, a permanent digital archive will be established to document and protect cultural assets for future generations.

The project also includes training programs for young architects, equipping them with the necessary skills to contribute to Bangladesh’s cultural preservation efforts.

High-Level Announcement

The grant was formally announced by Brent T. Christensen, alongside Nitai Roy Chowdhury and Sabina Alam. Their presence at the event highlights the importance of international cooperation in preserving cultural heritage and fostering stronger bilateral ties.
