Press Secretary’s Statement on Accountability

In his post, Shafiqul Alam said he believes that Sheikh Hasina, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and other Awami League leaders accused in the July incidents will have to face trial in Bangladesh sooner or later.

He believes that Sheikh Hasina, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and the Awami League leadership accused in the July incidents will one day face the courts in Bangladesh. India is already reviewing the request to extradite Hasina.

Extradition to Begin with Kamal

The Press Secretary wrote that Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, widely referred to as the “Butcher of Dhaka,” may be the first to be sent back to Bangladesh to face justice. He wrote:

“আমি ক্রমেই আরও দৃঢ়ভাবে বিশ্বাস করতে শুরু করেছি যে আসাদুজ্জামান খান কামাল যিনি ঢাকার কসাই হিসেবে পরিচিত। খুব শিগগিরই বিচারের মুখোমুখি হতে বাংলাদেশে প্রত্যর্পিত হবেন।”

Translation:
I am increasingly convinced that Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, known as the Butcher of Dhaka, will soon be extradited to Bangladesh to face trial.

He said that more global media attention is now focusing on the alleged crimes committed during Sheikh Hasina’s nearly 16-year rule, including incidents of genocide and enforced disappearances.

No Escape from Responsibility, Says Press Secretary

Shafiqul Alam further stated that no matter how much money certain Awami League leaders spend, they will not be able to escape responsibility forever.

He added that if the nation remains determined to ensure justice for the July massacre victims and all human rights violations during the Hasina era, then one by one, those responsible will face consequences—starting with Kamal.
