A powerful image captured by Bangladeshi photographer Amir Hamza has been selected for TIME Magazine’s “Top 100 Photos of 2025.” The photo was taken on July 3 in the Bronx, New York, during the funeral prayer (Janaza) of NYPD officer Didarul Islam.
Emotional Scene Captured
The selected photo shows a deeply emotional moment outside Parkchester Jame Masjid. It features worshippers praying in a mourning atmosphere along with a large presence of police members, symbolizing respect, human connection, and community unity.
The recognition has created a wave of pride across Bangladesh.
Cultural Ministry Calls It a Milestone
The Ministry of Cultural Affairs described this achievement as “a significant milestone for Bangladesh’s art and culture.”
The ministry stated that this recognition not only highlights Hamza’s artistic vision but also brings global attention to the stories of Bangladeshi people and diaspora communities.

Cultural Adviser Mustafa Sarwar Farooki congratulated Amir Hamza and encouraged everyone to celebrate this achievement. Farooki Said,
“আসুন, বাংলাদেশের আলোকচিত্রের এই অর্জনকে একসঙ্গে উদ্যাপন করি।”
Translation: “Let us celebrate this achievement of Bangladeshi photography together.”
He also wished for more global success for Bangladeshi photographers in the future.
Photographer Shares His Excitement
Amir Hamza himself reacted to the news on social media. Said,
“আমার তোলা এনওয়াইপিডি অফিসার দিদারুল ইসলামের জানাজার ছবি যুক্ত হয়েছে টাইম ম্যাগাজিনের বর্ষসেরা ১০০ ছবির তালিকায়।”
Translation: “My photo of NYPD officer Didarul Islam’s funeral prayer has been included in TIME Magazine’s Top 100 photos of the year.”
