BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is undergoing treatment at the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) of Evercare Hospital in the capital due to infections in her lungs and heart, according to the party’s Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas she is responding. Around 2 am on Friday (28 November), after visiting the ailing Khaleda Zia at the hospital, Mirza Abbas told reporters:
‘উনি (খালেদা জিয়া) আমাকে চিনতে পেরেছেন। আমরা সালাম দিলে তিনি উত্তর দিয়েছেন। আমাদের আবেদন থাকবে, সারাদেশের মানুষ শুধু মসজিদ-মাদ্রাসা নয়, ব্যক্তিগতভাবেও যেন উনার জন্য দোয়া করেন।’
Translation: “She recognized me. When we greeted her, she responded. We request people across the country to pray for her — not only in mosques and madrasas, but also individually.”
Mirza Abbas was accompanied by his wife, Afroza Abbas, President of the Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal. Concerned BNP leaders and activists have been gathering in front of Evercare Hospital to hear updates on the condition of the critically ill former Prime Minister. Earlier, around 11:15 pm on Friday, BNP Standing Committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan visited the hospital. While leaving, he told journalists:
‘আপনারা শুনেছেন একটু আগে মেডিকেল বোর্ড বসেছিল। বোর্ডের সদস্যরা খালেদা জিয়ার সর্বশেষ অবস্থা পর্যবেক্ষণ ও পর্যালোচনা করেছেন। তারা প্রয়োজনীয় যা যা করা দরকার, ব্যবস্থা নিচ্ছেন। তাদের চেষ্টার কোনো কমতি নেই।’
Translation:“You may have heard that the medical board met a while ago. They assessed her condition and are taking all necessary steps. They are doing everything possible.”
He added:
‘নিবিড় পর্যবেক্ষণে থাকা খালেদা জিয়ার অসুস্থতার প্যারামিটারগুলো স্টাডি করছেন বোর্ড এবং সে অনুযায়ী ব্যবস্থা নিচ্ছেন।’
Translation:“The medical team is studying the parameters of her illness as she remains under close observation and is taking actions accordingly.”
BNP Media Cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan said that on behalf of Chief Advisor Dr Muhammad Yunus, Legal Advisor Asif Nazrul and Special Assistant Monir Haidar went to the hospital late at night to check on Khaleda Zia. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was also present.

Later, Asif Nazrul posted on Facebook:
‘এভারকেয়ার হাসপাতালে গিয়েছিলাম। এখনি ফিরলাম। বেগম খালেদা জিয়ার শারীরিক অবস্থা এ
Translation: “Went to Evercare Hospital and just returned. Begum Khaleda Zia’s physical condition is not good at all. Please pray for her.”
On Friday night, several BNP leaders and activists from its affiliated organizations were seen waiting in front of Evercare Hospital to stay updated on her health condition. Earlier in the evening, expressing deep concern, Interim Government Chief Advisor Dr Muhammad Yunus requested the nation to pray for her recovery.
BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman thanked the Chief Advisor for inquiring about his mother’s health. Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer also posted on Facebook late Friday night:
খালেদা জিয়ার শারীরিক অবস্থার অবনতির সংবাদে আমরা গভীরভাবে উদ্বিগ্ন। তাঁর সার্বিক শারীরিক অবস্থার ব্যাপারে আমরা নিয়মিত খোঁজখবর রাখছি। আল্লাহতায়ালা যেন তাঁকে দ্রুত পূর্ণ সুস্থতা দান করেন, সব কষ্ট সহজ করে দেন এবং তাঁর জন্য উত্তম ব্যবস্থা করে দেন।
Translation: “We are deeply worried by the news of the deterioration in Khaleda Zia’s health. We are regularly monitoring her condition. May Allah grant her full and speedy recovery, ease her suffering, and provide her with the best outcomes.”
The 80-year-old former Prime Minister has long been suffering from multiple health complications including heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, liver cirrhosis, and kidney issues. On 23 November, she was rushed to Evercare Hospital after experiencing sudden breathing difficulties.
Doctors later confirmed infections in her lungs and heart. For advanced treatment, Khaleda Zia traveled to London on 7 January, returning to Dhaka on 6 May after 117 days. Since returning, she has been hospitalized multiple times due to recurring health complications.
