Yamal’s Response on Social Media
Lamine Yamal responded through an Instagram post, expressing his disappointment and anger over the chants. He wrote,
“I am Muslim, Alhamdulillah. In the stadium they chanted, ‘If you don’t jump, you are Muslim.’”
Lamine Yamal added:
“Even if it was not directed personally at me, as a Muslim I find it disrespectful and completely unacceptable.”
Lamine Yamal further stressed:
“Football is a place for enjoyment and support, not a place to mock religion or identity.”

Authorities Launch Investigation
Catalonia’s regional police, Mossos d’Esquadra, confirmed that they have opened an investigation into the alleged Islamophobic and xenophobic chants during the match.
Match officials, security reports, and video footage will be reviewed to identify those responsible.
Government and Football Bodies Condemn the Incident
Catalonia’s Sports Minister Berní Álvarez described the incident as serious and unacceptable, saying such behaviour does not represent true sportsmanship. Meanwhile, FIFA is also reviewing official reports and may take disciplinary steps depending on the findings.
