Police say they are verifying his political affiliation
Authorities in Bauphal, Patuakhali have arrested BNP activist Faisal Panchayet, following allegations that opponents created fake documents listing him as the office secretary of the Upazila Swechchhasebak League.
On Monday (1 December), a team from the District Detective Branch (DB) detained Faisal. Later, he was presented before the court in connection with a political case filed in July–August 2024, after which he was sent to jail.
Before his arrest, a letterhead from the official pad of the Bauphal Upazila Swechchhasebak League circulated widely on social media, where Faisal’s name appeared as the office secretary. Controversy arose soon after allegations surfaced against UNO Aminul Islam involving misappropriation of funds from government khas land allocations.
Several individuals, including Faisal, were accused of assisting in granting one-year cultivation permissions in exchange for large sums of money. This was the first time Faisal’s name appeared publicly as a Swechchhasebak League leader.

আমাদের পরিবার বরাবরই উপজেলা বিএনপির রাজনীতির সঙ্গে যুক্ত, ফয়সাল কখনোই স্বেচ্ছাসেবক লীগের রাজনীতি করেননি। পারিবারিক জমিসংক্রান্ত বিরোধের জেরে আমাদের বাড়ির ভূমিদস্যু মোচন পঞ্চায়েত জাল কাগজ বানিয়ে তার ভাইকে স্বেচ্ছাসেবক লীগ নেতা সাজিয়ে গ্রেফতার করিয়েছে।
Translation: “Our family has always been involved with BNP politics. Faisal has never worked with the Swechchhasebak League. Because of a land dispute, local land-grabber Mochon Panchayet forged fake documents and labeled him as a Swechchhasebak League leader to get him arrested.”
She added:
‘মোচন পঞ্চায়েত শুধু আমাদের সাথেই নয়, বাড়ির প্রায় সবার সাথেই জমি নিয়ে বিরোধ সৃষ্টি করে রেখেছেন এবং মিথ্যা মামলায় হয়রানি করেন।’
Translation: “Mochon not only troubles us; he has created land conflicts with almost every household in the area and files false cases to harass people.”
Faisal’s cousin Riaz Panchayet supported her statement, saying Faisal had long been involved with BNP:
গ্রেফতার ফয়সাল কালাইয়া ইউনিয়ন যুবদলের সাবেক সদস্য এবং নতুন কমিটিতে পদপ্রত্যাশী। একটি চক্র শুধু তাকে নয়, আমাকে পর্যন্ত আওয়ামী লীগ পরিচয়ে ফাঁসিয়েছিল, অথচ আমি অতীতে বহুবার আওয়ামী নির্যাতনের শিকার হয়েছি। তদন্তে আমার বিষয়ে সব অভিযোগ মিথ্যা প্রমাণিত হয়েছিল।’
Translation: “Faisal is a former member of the Kalaiya Union Jubo Dal and a candidate for a post in the new committee. The same group even tried to trap me once by portraying me as an Awami League member, though I have suffered torture from the Awami League in the past. Later investigation proved all the allegations against me were false.”
A responsible leader of the Upazila Swechchhasebak League, speaking anonymously on WhatsApp, said:
ভাইরাল হওয়া প্যাডটি আসল হলেও দপ্তর সম্পাদকের স্থানে ফয়সালের নামটি ভুয়া। ‘সুপার এডিটিং’-এর মাধ্যমে আসল দপ্তর সম্পাদক জসিমের নাম মুছে ফয়সালের নাম বসানো হয়েছে।
Translation: “The viral pad is genuine, but the name written as office secretary is fake. Through ‘super editing,’ the real office secretary Jasim’s name was removed and Faisal’s name was added.”
Meanwhile, Moslem Panchayet alias Mochon dismissed all accusations:
অভিযোগগুলো সম্পূর্ণ মিথ্যা ও ভিত্তিহীন।আমি কাউকে ফাঁসানোর কাজে জড়িত নই। ব্যক্তিগত জমির বাইরে অন্য কারও জমির কাছেও যাই না। যারা আমার জমি দখলের চেষ্টা করে, তারাই এসব মিথ্যা অপবাদ ছড়াচ্ছে।’
Translation: “These claims are completely false and baseless. I am not involved in framing anyone. I only look after my personal land. Those who want to grab my land are spreading these lies.”
DB officials declined to comment. However, Bauphal Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Atikul Islam said the Thana police were not initially aware of the arrest:
ফয়সালের গ্রেফতারের বিষয়টি প্রথমে থানা পুলিশ জানত না। ডিবি আটক করার পর তারা অবগত হন। তার রাজনৈতিক পরিচয় যাচাই করে আদালতকে অবহিত করা হবে।
Translation:“We came to know after DB detained him. His political identity will be verified and reported to the court.”
