In Raninagar, Murshidabad, cash donations for the reconstruction of the Babri Masjid are being counted at the residence of suspended Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir.
The counting process began after a significant flow of contributions started on Saturday, December 6, the date marked to remember the demolition of the Babri Masjid and to symbolically lay its foundation.
Humayun Kabir stated that around 300 crore would be required to build the mosque. He reported that approximately 93 lakh has already been collected through online donations, while 11 trunks filled with cash have been received from individuals who visited in person.
Kabir said he is not worried about funding shortages. According to him, one anonymous donor has pledged 80 crore for the mosque construction, and many others are continuing to contribute. The strong public response suggests that the project will not face a lack of funds.

So far, seven of the eleven trunks have been opened, revealing 37 lakh in cash. Scholars, volunteers, and around 30 people using counting machines are engaged in the counting process. Kabir claimed that a total of 1.1 crore has already been collected and more people are joining the effort.
The massive reaction surrounding the fundraising indicates that financial obstacles are unlikely. How this initiative influences the political landscape ahead of the 2026 elections remains to be seen.
Separately, a tragic road accident occurred when a vehicle skidded off the road and plunged 600 feet into a gorge, resulting in the death of six passengers.
