Strong Remarks at Local Gathering

Hasnat Abdullah, southern chief organiser of the National Citizen Party and the party’s nominated candidate for Cumilla-4 (Debidwar), made strong remarks against India while speaking at a courtyard meeting in Debidwar, Cumilla, on Wednesday afternoon (17 December).

Hasnat Abdullah alleged that India had summoned and scolded Bangladesh’s High Commission and said such behaviour was unacceptable. Said,

“ভারতীয় হাই কমিশনারকে ওই খুনি হাসিনাকে আশ্রয় দেওয়ার জন্য শুধু ধমক না, লাথি দিয়ে বের করে দেওয়া উচিত ছিল।”

Translation: “The Indian High Commissioner should not just have been scolded but expelled for sheltering the killer Hasina.”

Allegations of Sheltering Criminals

Hasnat Abdullah accused India of protecting, training, and financing criminals linked to Bangladesh, claiming that thousands were staying there without valid documents. He said,

“আপনি আমার দেশের সন্ত্রাস পালবেন… আর আমি আপনার সাথে বন্ধুত্বপূর্ণ সম্পর্ক রাখবো?”

Translation: “You shelter terrorists from my country, create instability, and still expect friendly relations?”

Hasnat Abdullah questioned why Bangladesh should remain silent if India allegedly supports violence and unrest across the border.

Call for Fair and Equal Relations

Stressing the need for dignity in diplomacy, he said bilateral relations must be based on justice, not submission. Hasnat said,

“সম্পর্ক হবে ন্যায্যতার ভিত্তিতে… আমার সীমান্তকে আপনি সম্মান করতে হবে।”

Translation: “Relations must be based on fairness. If you respect your borders, you must respect ours too.”

He added that if aggression continues, protest is inevitable:

“আমি দেখামাত্রই গুলি না করতে পারি, অন্তত ঢিল ছুঁড়ে হলেও প্রতিবাদ করব।”

Translation: “If I cannot respond with bullets, I will at least protest with stones.”

Push for Self-Reliance and Youth Leadership

Hasnat Abdullah criticised cultural influence and dependency, urging young people to stand firm and independent.

He said earlier generations had compromised due to fear and personal interests, but the youth must lead with courage.

Defiance Against Political Fear

Rejecting fear-driven politics, he said many leaders stay silent to avoid upsetting India.

He compared past Bangladesh–India relations under the Awami League to an unequal relationship and said such dynamics would no longer be accepted.

Referring to political violence, he said critics and opponents had been targeted for years.
