Countrywide Funeral Prayers Offered for Martyred Osman Hadi

In a display of love and respect from hundreds of thousands of people, Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi was laid to eternal rest. On the day, a massive turnout of mourners was seen at his funeral prayers in the capital and across the country.

The burial of Sharif Osman Hadi was completed on Saturday (December 20) at around 3:15 pm beside the mausoleum of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam near Dhaka University. Earlier, his funeral prayers were held at 2:30 pm at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building, where his elder brother Abu Bakar Siddique led the prayers.

At the funeral prayers held at the National Parliament Building, Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman, Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman, National Citizen Party Convener Nahid Islam, along with several advisers of the interim government, leaders of various political parties, socio-cultural organisations, and people from all walks of life, were present.

Nationwide funeral prayers

Although they could not take part in the funeral prayers in person in the capital, thousands of people participated in funeral prayers without the body present in various parts of the country, including Barishal, Saidpur, Madaripur, Chandpur, Moulvibazar, and Sylhet.

In Barishal, funeral prayers without the body present were held at the Central Shaheed Minar premises after the Asr prayers. After the prayers, a protest procession was brought out, demanding the quick arrest of the killers.

In Saidpur of Nilphamari, a massive funeral prayer without the body present was held at the Paanchmatha intersection, with students, political leaders and activists, and members of the general public taking part. Students said that Hadi’s position against fascism would remain a lifelong inspiration.

In Rajair of Madaripur, at the Chandpur Government College ground, in Borolekha of Moulvibazar, and in the Court Point area of Sylhet as well, prayers and funeral prayers without the body present were held. Speakers at different places said that,

“একজন মানুষকে হত্যা করা গেলেও তার আদর্শকে হত্যা করা যায় না।”

Translation : “A person can be killed, their ideology cannot be killed.”
