First Direct Ship Sails from Karachi to Chattogram

From Pakistan’s biggest seaport, Karachi, the Panamanian ship “Wan Jiang Fa Zhan” has reached the Port of Chattogram. This is the first time the two nations have a direct maritime connection. 370 containers of cargo were transported by the ship.

This was declared on Wednesday by the Pakistani High Commission in Dhaka. The ship is already on its way to Indonesia after leaving Chattogram.

Syed Ahmed Maroof, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, said in a news release on Wednesday that the first direct marine link between both countries has been established when a direct cargo ship from Karachi arrived at Chattogram port. This trip serves as a reminder of the two countries’ increasing need for direct trade.

The High Commissioner further emphasized that the direct shipping route will enhance bilateral trade and business relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh. He noted that this is a significant step towards developing a more integrated and commercial network in the region. The initiative will not only accelerate existing trade flows but also create new opportunities for businesses, from small traders to large exporters, on both sides.

Md. Omar Faruq, Chattogram Port Secretary, attested to the development. “The ship made a number of port calls en route to Chattogram, including Karachi Port in Pakistan,” he said. After reaching Chattogram, the ship sailed to Indonesia on Tuesday.
