In the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election, Barrister Rumin Farhana, BNP’s joint secretary for international affairs of the central executive committee and former Member of Parliament, did not receive the party nomination for the widely discussed Brahmanbaria-2 seat. However, she has announced that she will contest the election as an independent candidate. She even stated that she will resign from the party even before buying the nomination.
On Tuesday (December 23) afternoon, she confirmed the matter over the phone. Rumin Farhana says,
Translation : ” I will contest the election from the Brahmanbaria-2 seat.”
Rumin Farhana said,
Translation : “Such a large party (BNP) has to consider both good and bad. Since they formed an alliance with Jamiat Ulema, how could they form the alliance without giving a seat! The party was compelled to give them the seat.”

Regarding BNP’s message that anyone from the party contesting as an independent candidate will be expelled, Rumin Farhana said,
Translation : “If action is necessary, the party will certainly take it. I cannot prevent that. However, I will resign from the party with dignity even before buying the nomination.”
she says,
Translation : “Tomorrow or the day after, the nomination form will be taken on my behalf. Which symbol I will get or be given as an independent candidate will be seen later. I hope the love of the people in my area is still with me. They will respond through their votes.”
Earlier, on Tuesday (December 23) afternoon, at a press conference held at the political office of the party chairperson in Gulshan, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced Maulana Junaid Al Habib, vice president of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, as the alliance candidate for the Brahmanbaria-2 seat.At that time, she said,
Translation : “That those who contest the election independently, going against the party’s decision, will face organizational action.”
BNP Secretary General said,
Translation : “In the seats where Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam candidates will contest, BNP will not field any candidates. He also urged the public to vote for the date palm symbol to strengthen the sheaf of paddy.”
Barrister Rumin Farhana’s nomination for the Brahmanbaria-2 seat attracted widespread attention. On November 3, BNP released its preliminary candidate list for 237 constituencies. In that list, BNP did not announce anyone for Brahmanbaria-2. Since then, local BNP leaders were largely convinced that the seat would be allocated to the alliance’s Junaid Al Habib. However, Barrister Rumin Farhana did not halt her election campaign. In various meetings and gatherings, she hinted that she would contest as an independent candidate if the party did not grant her the nomination.
The Brahmanbaria-2 seat is recognized as a BNP stronghold. Next comes the position of Langol. Here, the candidate of the date palm symbol has contested seven elections and secured victory six times, the candidate of the plough symbol has contested nine times and won three times, the candidate of the boat symbol has contested five times and won once, and independent candidates have been victorious twice. In this constituency, the BNP-led alliance has allocated its partners the seat twice and won once, while the Awami League-led Grand Alliance has allocated its partners the seat five times and achieved victory twice.
