National Citizens Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam has welcomed BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman to the country. In a status posted on his verified page on social media Facebook today (December 25), Nahid said,
“জনাব তারেক রহমানকে স্বদেশে স্বাগত জানাই। দেশের গণতান্ত্রিক ভবিষ্যৎ বিনির্মাণে তার এই অংশগ্রহণ ফলপ্রসূ হোক।”Translation : “I welcome Mr. Tarique Rahman to my homeland. May his participation in building the democratic future of the country be fruitful.”
In a Facebook status, Nahid said,
“দীর্ঘ ১৭ বছর পর দেশে ফিরেছেন বিএনপির ভারপ্রাপ্ত চেয়ারম্যান জনাব তারেক রহমান। একজন বাংলাদেশি নাগরিক ও রাজনৈতিক নেতার নিজ ভূমিতে ফেরার এই অধিকারটি পুনরুদ্ধার হওয়া আমাদের গণতান্ত্রিক লড়াইয়েরই একটি ইতিবাচক প্রতিফলন।”Translation : “BNP Acting Chairman Mr. Tarique Rahman has returned to the country after 17 long years. The restoration of this right of a Bangladeshi citizen and political leader to return to his own land is a positive reflection of our democratic struggle.”

The NCP convener also said that Tarique Rahman and his family were subjected to state persecution due to political dissent and had to remain in exile for a long time. The mass uprising through the blood donation of thousands of martyrs has created a context where he and his family were able to return to the country.
He said,
“আমরা গণতান্ত্রিক মূল্যবোধে বিশ্বাসী বাংলাদেশ রাষ্ট্র চাই যেখানে ভবিষ্যতে ভিন্নমতের কারণে কোনো রাজনৈতিক নেতৃবৃন্দের যাতে রাষ্ট্রীয় দমন-পীড়নের মধ্য দিয়ে যেতে হবে না। বিগত দেড় দশকের অবরুদ্ধ রাজনৈতিক পরিবেশ ভেঙে আমরা আজ যে মুক্ত বাংলাদেশের পথে হাঁটছি, সেখানে প্রতিটি নাগরিকের আইনের শাসন ও রাজনৈতিক অধিকার নিশ্চিত করাই আমাদের মূল লক্ষ্য।”Translation : “We want a Bangladesh state that believes in democratic values, where no political leader will have to go through state repression due to dissent in the future. Our main goal is to ensure the rule of law and political rights of every citizen in the free Bangladesh that we are walking on today, breaking the blocked political environment of the past one and a half decades.”
In the post, Nahid also said,
“জনাব তারেক রহমানের এই প্রত্যাবর্তন দেশের বহুদলীয় গণতন্ত্রের চর্চাকে আরও সুসংহত করবে বলে আমরা বিশ্বাস করি। নতুন রাজনৈতিক বাস্তবতায় সহাবস্থান এবং সুস্থ প্রতিযোগিতার সংস্কৃতি গড়ে তোলাই এখন আমাদের প্রধান চ্যালেঞ্জ।”Translation : “We believe that this return of Mr. Tarique Rahman will further consolidate the practice of multi-party democracy in the country. Our main challenge now is to build a culture of coexistence and healthy competition in the new political reality.”
