The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the deadline for submitting income tax returns by one month, now due on December 31, 2024. This decision follows multiple requests from professional bodies, citing challenges in meeting the original deadline.
As of now, 375,000 taxpayers have already filed their returns online. In a move to streamline the process, the NBR has made online filing mandatory for salaried employees, including those in the banking sector, government workers, and employees in other private sectors. This shift to digital submissions is part of a broader effort to modernize tax collection and improve efficiency.
The extension provides taxpayers with extra time to complete their filings, particularly those who may have faced delays in gathering necessary documents or understanding the filing process.
Taxpayers are encouraged to visit the NBR’s online portal for easy submission and detailed instructions on the filing process. The NBR also emphasized that timely submission is important to avoid penalties, even with the extended deadline.
