Xiaomi aims to start producing its own smartphone CPUs by 2025, with the objective of minimizing reliance on foreign chipmakers like Qualcomm. This move is part of the company’s overall goal to obtain more control over its smartphone technology and coincide with China’s quest for more tech independence. Supported by a significant $4.1 billion R&D budget, Xiaomi aims to strengthen its position in the mobile market while also expanding into the electric vehicle (EV) sector. Although other companies have faced challenges with similar efforts, Xiaomi’s push into chip production could set it up as a major player in both hardware and chip integration.
