Indian Coast Guard Detains Two Bangladeshi Fishing Vessels

Two Bangladeshi fishing vessels, FV Meghna-5 and FV Laila-2, along with 79 fishermen and crew members, have been detained by the Indian Coast Guard. The incident took place on Monday, December 9, in the Bay of Bengal.

The Department of Marine Fisheries confirmed the incident, stating that the vessel owners reported the detention through an official letter. The vessels were fishing in the Khulna region when they were seized. According to the report, FV Meghna-5 had 37 crew members, while FV Laila-2 carried 42 crew members.

It remains unclear why the Indian Coast Guard detained the vessels and their crew. Authorities have yet to receive a formal explanation regarding the circumstances of the incident.
