BGB Fires at Indian Miscreants, Saves Teen from Human Trafficking

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) rescued a trafficked teenage girl from the Indian border area in Kumulapara, Maheshpur, on Thursday evening. Three Bangladeshi human traffickers were also arrested during the operation, while Indian miscreants fled after BGB fired warning shots.

The arrested individuals were identified as Abdul Mannan (31), son of Ilahi Mondal, Rubel (32), son of Abu Taleb Khalifa, and Hridoy Hossain (29), son of Rezaul Islam, all from Baghdanga village in Maheshpur.

According to a BGB press release, the incident took place around 7:00 PM. A group of 7-8 traffickers crossed the international border into Bangladesh. When confronted by a BGB patrol team, several traffickers fled back into India. The BGB detained four individuals, including Shuli Khatun, daughter of Abdul Latif from Bhatar village, Saturia, Manikganj.

While attempting to rescue the teenager, three to four Indian miscreants armed with sharp weapons advanced on the BGB team. In response, the BGB fired a single round of warning shots, forcing the miscreants to retreat into Indian territory.

During interrogation, Shuli revealed she had been lured into trafficking under the pretense of a promising job and TikTok video opportunities. She was taken to Kolkata, India, where she met other Bangladeshi teenage girls.

Shuli later discovered plans to send them all to Mumbai. When she resisted, she was physically assaulted and fell ill. The traffickers then contacted her family, demanding a ransom of BDT 40,000 for her return to Bangladesh. Following the payment, she was sent back through the Maheshpur border on Thursday.

The BGB handed Shuli over to local authorities for further investigation and care, while the arrested traffickers remain in custody.
