BGB Restores Five Kilometers of Bangladesh Land from Indian BSF Control, A Major Border Victory

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has successfully reclaimed nearly 5 kilometers of the Kodla River along the Matila border in Maheshpur, Jhenidah, ending years of restricted access imposed by India’s Border Security Force (BSF). The announcement was made during a press conference on Monday, January 6, by the 58th BGB Battalion.

Lieutenant Colonel Azizus Shahid, the Commanding Officer of the 58th BGB, explained, “This 4.8-kilometer stretch of the Kodla River has always been part of Bangladesh’s territory. However, our locals were unable to use it for fishing or other daily activities because of interference from the BSF. After recent discussions, we’ve restored our control, and now residents can freely access and use the river.”

The news brought excitement and relief to the people of Matila village, who have long been denied access to the river. Many gathered near the riverbanks, some fishing while others enjoyed bathing in the reclaimed water.

Alomgir, a local farmer, expressed his joy: “We couldn’t even dream of using this river before. BSF didn’t let us get near it. Now, we can fish, bathe, and go about our daily chores without any fear.”

This victory is being celebrated as a major success for BGB, who remain committed to protecting Bangladesh’s borders and ensuring the rights of its citizens.
