The results of 193 candidates chosen through the Freedom Fighter’s Children quota under the 2024-25 medical admission received temporary suspension from the Directorate of Medical Education. The authority took this measure after students together with public citizens started to voice their doubts regarding these candidates’ qualification standards.
The authorities are reviewing candidate documents as Professor Rubina Yasmin from Medical Education as Additional Director General suspends results temporarily. All candidate documents will receive thorough analysis to verify the eligibility of candidates included in the list. Professor Rubina Yasmin reported that three committees have formed to examine candidate documents while requesting applicants to deliver their papers to the ministry between January 27 to January 29.
Students started calling attention to candidate selection because it involved qualified individuals with lower test scores than less qualified candidates. Several activists as well as students shared their memories of the July 2018 movement which fought to improve the quota system. Students continue to face the same problems in recruitment and admissions system fairness which served as the main focus of the previous movement.
The results, announced on January 19, had selected 5,372 candidates for government medical colleges, including 193 under the Freedom Fighter’s Children quota. After the protests and concerns, the Directorate decided to suspend these 193 results until a thorough review is completed.
Professor Yasmin emphasized that this step is essential to maintain transparency and fairness. “This is just a preliminary result. The final decision will be made after the documents are checked,” she said.
This verification process is being seen as an important move to ensure fairness in the system, and many hope it will address the long-standing concerns that were raised during the July movement for quota reform.
