Grameen Trust, directed by Professor Dr.Muhammad Yunus, is set to establish a new private university called Grameen University.The new university, Grameen University, will have its permanent campus in Uttara, the capital, according to jagonews24.com.The University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh confirmed the information, and a UGC delegation recently inspected the proposed campus. The team toured the university’s facilities and had discussions with the university’s Board of Trustees and other pertinent stakeholders during the visit.
UGC sources state that after the campus visit, a report on “Grameen University’s” approval will be sent to the Ministry of Education, which will then approve the university. Private universities must have at least one acre of land for their permanent campuses in the metropolitan districts of Dhaka and Chittagong, and two acres in other locations, according to UGC regulations.
The almost 25-acre Grameen University is situated in the capital’s Uttara North neighborhood and is pending clearance. 16 people are listed as potential members of the university’s Board of Trustees in an application that was filed to the UGC. By emphasizing SDGs and social effect, the institution hopes to improve Bangladesh’s educational system. It states that Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus founded the Grameen University Trust, with Ashraful Hasan serving as its chairman. The University Grants Commission of Bangladesh has authorized 115 private universities as of right now. Of them, nine institutions have ceased their academic operations, while 106 are still in operation.
