The Sir Garfield Sobers Award for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year went to Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah became the fifth Indian to win the Sir Garfield Sobers Award for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2024. He performed better than rivals Harry Brook, Travis Head, and Joe Root. Bumrah had an outstanding season, winning Player of the Tournament for his contributions to India’s victory in the T20 World Cup and dominating in Tests and T20’s. With game-winning efforts against South Africa and Pakistan, he claimed 15 wickets at an economy of 4.17 and an average of 8.26 at the World Cup.

Even though Bumrah’s first 2024 triumphs were in Twenty20 Internationals, such as the World Cup, his Test skills were on full display in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, as he claimed 32 wickets in five games. His performances kept the squad competitive in the face of numerous obstacles, even though India lost the series 1-3.

Along with dominating in Test cricket, Bumrah attained No. 1 in the ICC rankings and took 71 wickets, the second-highest annual total by an Indian bowler after Kapil Dev. He collected 200 Test wickets at a record-low average and became the first bowler from India to reach 900 points in the Test rankings. He was also named the ICC Test Player of the Year for his exploits.
