The Dhaka Electric Supply Company (Desco) observed an important rise in earnings in the second quarter of the 2024–25 fiscal year. Which was quite different to the losses it experienced during the same period previous year. After reporting a loss of Tk 43.46 crore during the same quarter last year, the company reported a profit of Tk 26.16 crore in Q2.
During the October–December period of 2024, Desco’s revenue increased by 116 percent year over year to Tk 223.28 crore. By today’s close of trade, DESCO’s shares had jumped 6.06 percent to Tk 24.5 on the Dhaka Stock Exchange. The company’s earnings per share increased to Tk 0.66 due to improved distribution revenue, while its financial statement showed a loss per share of Tk 1.10 during the same time last year. It lost Tk 0.15 per share from July to December 2024, compared to Tk 4.92 in the same period last year. Due to higher revenue collection, Desco’s net operating cash flow per share grew from Tk 2.51 to Tk 2.88.
