Even with new banking restrictions in place, Bangladeshis abroad continued to send money home, pushing remittance inflows up by 3% in January 2025. A total of $2.18 billion came in last month, despite the Bangladesh Bank imposing a ceiling on how much banks could collect in remittances. While the growth rate in January was slower than last year’s 7% rise, the overall trend remains strong.
During the fiscal period from July to January the total remittances Bangladesh received reached $15.96 billion showing a significant rise of 24% over the corresponding time period of the previous year. For many families, money from abroad is vital for daily needs. Though banking restrictions may create challenges, workers abroad are determined to keep supporting their loved ones.
